This is a really challenging and fun sketchbook assignment that I always give to my senior level grade 11 and 12 art students.
It asks them to draw UNSEEN things in their home - things that people normally walk by, don't look at, don't WANT to look at, ignore...
They have to do a final 1 or 2 pay layout in their sketchbook showing these unseen things, where they draw from direct observation.
It really forces students to look closely...which is the artists' ultimate goal - to make people SEE things in a new way.
They're also encourage to consider:
-their subject matter
-materials (I encourage them to try a new material they've never tried before for this)
-composition on the page
-style and techniques
They enjoy it!
Also included is a mini rubric in case you wish to add this as part of an assessment.
