Welcome to Visual Fractions – Dividing Fractions!
Using this method, students will learn to divide fractions using ONLY visual models WITHOUT KNOWING HOW TO MULTIPLY OR DIVIDE!
THIS IS A PURELY VISUAL METHOD OF PERFORMING DIVISION WITH FRACTIONS WITHOUT NEEDING TO BE STRONG AT ARITHMETIC.
Students gain a better understanding of dividing fractions by working at the pictorial/iconic level. This way, students create visual models by drawing the fractions and mixed numbers. They get to SEE what is actually happening, so they understand it better.
This video could be used as the lecture part of a flipped classroom lesson. It could be shared with individual students who struggle with understanding fraction basics, it could be used as the lecture segment of your classroom lesson, or it could be used to inform you and your colleagues about a new and exciting way to work with fractions.
The Visual Fractions method is great for students new to learning fractions because it allows them to have a deeper understanding of what is happening when working with abstract concepts like fractions. It is also great for older students who still struggle with basic multiplication and division, but still are expected to know and perform operations with fractions.
I hope you like it and see its usefulness in your classroom.
