This is a Powerpoint with a lot of cool, intriguing historical images - form the pyramids, to Walt Disney.
NOTE - there's a different version of this in my shop that deals with more modern images from the New York Times....I usually do this as an intro to that one.
The students use their inferencing skills to figure out what the photo is all about. It forces their brain to use their prior knowledge and connect it to what they see.
There's the "answer", or the description, on the second slide for each image. They always want to know the actual description afterwards.
