Visual journals are always my students' favorite project of the year. It is a space for them to express themselves, experiment with materials, and take a break from regular projects. It is a great project for middle school and high school age students.
Every Friday I introduce a new material and technique my students can use in their visual journal. One of the coolest techniques is a packaging tape image transfer. It is a way to turn a printed image into a semi-transparent image, showing the words from the book page through the picture. It is an easy way to personalize a book by transferring family and friend photographs.
This worksheet is a step by step guide for students to follow when doing a packaging tape transfer. Even after many demonstrations, my students always forget how many layers of tape to apply and when to rinse the paper off. This guide is the perfect prevention of me repeating myself.
On the back of this how to worksheets are a range of packaging tape transfer examples. If you have the resources to print this on the back of the worksheet for each student, it is a great visual guide. If you are tight on color printing you can project this image while explaining the project or print a single version students can look at.
