We all know that students become more empowered learners when they set goals for themselves. Every learner in the classroom has different needs and consequently different learning goals.
Displaying every student's goal in the classroom for each subject areas is not always possible with limited wall space already being used for classroom displays and students work samples.
This resource provides students with a 'goal pencil' that can be on their desk at all times as a name tag and a goal reminder. Students need frequent reminders of the learning goals they have set and to be able to clearly see them during the learning process in order to work towards achieving them.
The 'goal pencil' allows for students to have up to four learning goals and can be utilised across the curriculum. The goals simply stick onto the pencil with a clear 'I can' statement linked with a visual. This allows for students to have access to immediate feedback during reading, writing, maths etc as teachers can refer to the individual student's goal during the lesson. This holds both the student and teacher accountable for the goals that have been set.
The 'goal pencil' has been designed so that once the student has successfully completed a goal, it can easily be switched with the next goal the student is working towards.
This resource comes with 42 'I can' statements that are suitable across reading, writing and math strands.
It is also editable so teachers can write each student's name on the pencil and add goals that suit their own learners throughout the year.
