Welcome to the SMocKroom! These Visual Literacy 'quickie' lessons engage students in discussions based on art works, artists and artifacts. Students begin to observe, describe and tell using evidence from the particular work of art or artifact. As a resource for informational text, these Visual Literacy 'quickies' can be used within Literacy Circles or Centers, as whole group discussions and the bases for an art project, boosting the students critical thinking skills, oral vocabulary and high level concept comprehension.
This specific Power Point presentation focuses on early animation, pre-technology! STEAM at it's best.
Students begin with analysis of an artifact called a zoetrope and proceed to make their own simple animation. This easy to follow sequence allows each student (or group of students) to explore images as informational text, write a creative story about their discoveries and create a 'mini-movie' using simple tools: paper, pencil and string.
All pages are printable and ready for use.
