This product is a 45 minute multiple choice quiz designed to test the skills of students at interpreting visual texts like advertisements, posters, infographics, and other messages combining images and words. I did this for my year 11 and 12 students as a way to model techniques used to clearly explain intention, target market, purpose, appropriateness as well as rhetorical and other devices used in persuasive texts. My students are often aware of persuasive strategies used by advertisers or promoters of a cause but need help articulating them. The multiple choice test offers opportunities for students to recognize a well formulated response to a problem. This test can therefore be regarded as a learning tool or could also be used as a diagnostic exercise to establish language comprehension levels. It could also simply be a useful quick test to complete a section on visual literacy.
