As you look at the Visual Math™ pictures on a deck of 40 Visual Math™ Playing Cards, you can also use math thinking STRATEGIES.
For example, when you look at just one Visual Math™ Card, you can SEE that adding 10 to a single digit number like 7 means keeping the 7 and recording one 10 more into ten's place. 7 + 10 = 17.
Ten is the base of our number system because it bundles and records things we count into bundles of ten. Tens place is a different place than ones place. The tens "live" in the place that is next door to the place where the ones "live".
I call Ten a "BUG" to give you a visual picture. For example, when adding a 9, (9 is a Hungry Bug who wants to be a 10.) 9 will "eat" one from another addend to make 10 and reduce the other addend by one. 9 + 4, = 10 + 3 = 14.
When kids have these cards, they can practice and master addition and subtraction strategic thinking while playing games, performing magic tricks and using the cards as flash cards. They can practice and master mental math thinking!
These cards are intended to be used with The Visual Math™ Addition & Subtraction Guidebook: See Your Way to Math Success also available from my TpT store at the link below.
