Students with autism often use visual schedules at school, but when they get home their day is very unstructured. The pieces that you get are geared towards activities that they student will do at home (before/after school and on the weekends). I've included pictures and words on the pieces to assist the emergent reader in better understanding their schedule. I've also included a Spiderman name plate that can be used to write the child's name on. This doesn't need to be used if the child doesn't like Spiderman (it's just an example). The pieces in this schedule include wash hands, go to bathroom, eat breakfast, and many different community activities (like movie theater, visit, OT, Speech, church, library, etc.).
After printing out all 5 pages, please laminate them. All of the smaller pieces are schedule pieces and can be set-up in a top-down or left-right fashion. You will need to buy a plastic folder or laminate a schedule board. Place loop Velcro on the board and hood Velcro on the pieces. Use an envelope or plastic container as a "done" area. After the child is finished with the activity, they should pull off the piece and place it in "done". When I am first teaching this to the child, I will only place 2-3 pictures on the board. You don't want to overwhelm the child when first teaching how to use the board.
The one page of larger pieces can be used as a ring of visual directions for the parent to carry with them. Included on this page are "hands to self", "stop", "wait", "clean up", "sit down", and many more. Rather than just giving a verbal direction to the child, pair it with the visual (for example, "clean up your toys" and show the picture at the same time). To make this ring of visuals, cut out the pieces, hole punch in the top left corner, and place on a binder ring or lanyard.
