I have my students analyze different visual texts before we begin our argument unit. I use PSA's, advertisements, and political cartoons. I have provided two examples of my template here WITHOUT the advertisements, PSA's or political cartoons present due to copyright laws. I go to google and search for ads, PSA's and political cartoons and insert them into the template for my students. Please contact me directly if you would like the specific visual texts I use with my students.
After student's analyze the visual texts, I have them write a constructed response/academic summary paragraph. I have two separate templates for the academic summary/constructed response. One compares two different visual texts stating which has the stronger argument. The second one, I included a frame for the constructed response/academic summary paragraph analyzing just one visual text.
I use these visual texts before I have my students begin the argument writing unit, which I have posted on TpT as well.
