Visual geography asks learners to use background knowledge to create their own definitions based upon connecting an image to a term. Show each slide and say the term. Learners write the definition in their own words. I have used this to great effect over that last three years. It places learners in a position where they are forced to think creatively in order to learn. Use it as a pre-assessment, a learning tool, or as a formal assessment at the end of a unit.
