This tool supports students in organizing their ideas when either writing or speaking. For example, I used this tool with my students to help them organize their thoughts during the share portion of the Responsive Classroom approach's morning meeting. Students shared their main idea, three supporting details, and wrapped it up with a strong concluding sentence. As they progressed through these steps, they placed each card down in front of them. This helped guide them and ensured that they stayed on topic. I used this with both my third and fifth grade classes and found it to be a very effective tool.
An additional scenario where I utilized this tool was during writing time. When a student was struggling to organize their ideas, I invited them to use this resource to help them. Further, this is a great tool for visual learners.
