When readers visualize using a vivid piece of text, they take the words of the text and mix them with their prior knowledge to create pictures in their minds.
This activity allows students to read the passage and sketch what they visualize. It is amazing to see the differences in how the students’ background knowledge influences their sketches!
It also makes students aware of using vivid language in their writing.
