Visualizing text and making connections are essential to reading comprehension. This packet consists of 2 additional original texts, not included in my original collection of 9, where students are asked to read and draw a visualization based on their understanding of the text. Students are asked to cite context clues, predict and make connections in the follow up questions. I have also added a word work component to this packet. This activity can be used to teach inference and how context clues and make connections with prior knowledge are essential to understanding. It can also be used as an assessment tool when evaluating a student’s comprehension skills. This activity is effective in grades 3-6 either whole class, with partners or independently.
