Such graphic organizer is perfect to scaffold student' understanding of the skill - visualization. It is perfect to use with English language leaners as they develop their listening and reading skills. This worksheet can be used in two ways:
1. Teacher reads a short selection from the mentor text or a read-aloud book periodically stopping and asking students to quickly sketch what they "saw" in their minds. This lesson/activity is a great follow-up on the lesson about senses; could be done/taught in conjunction.
2. Students use this worksheet every time they read their independent level books during independent reading block at school or when they read at home.
Also, to facilitate writing especially for younger ELLs, they can be asked to write a sentence to match their sketches.
