Visualizing is one of the first comprehension strategies that your students need to master! If they are able to decode and read fairly fluently, but struggle with comprehension, they need to start with visualizing. Practice it in your GR group; have them do this as a literacy center or station. Then as they read their own independent books, they can practice on their own. There are 8 different short reading passages that give concrete details for them to practice visualizing and drawing. As they successfully visualize these 8 passages, they can move along to practice it with their own books. This can be used as a station during your reader's workshop, to accompany Guided Reading, as homework practice, or as a skill to practice in their independent reading time.
Includes a teacher guidance, a choice board, and a blank practice sheet for students to use either with their own book or to create a passage of their own.
