This product consists of visuals for 6 typical classroom activity instructions: write name, cut, color, paste, draw, and listen.
It contains four different picture icon sizes/styles for presentation:
- 1 large picture icon of each direction with the word written out below
- 1 larger picture icon of each direction with no words
- 1 slightly smaller picture icon of each direction with the word below the picture
- 4 small personal size icons of each direction with the word written below
These visuals are geared more towards students in Pre-K through 3rd grade, however depending on the cognitive level of your students, these may be appropriate to use for older ages. While these were originally designed for students with special needs, I have had many teachers request these to use - especially for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grades - as they have found it to be extremely helpful for all the children in their class by providing visual reminders regarding the order in which these directions were given. Providing these visuals helps to decrease the verbal reminders needed as well as foster increased independence during their completion of classroom activities.
Typically teachers will laminate the larger sizes and attach them to their smartboards/whiteboards or walls (via magnets, velcro, tape, etc.) and as instructions for assignments/tasks involving these actions are given, they will arrange these in that order as a visual reminder for their students. The smaller personal sizes are usually laminated and then arranged on the student tables/centers (via laminated paper strips with velcro) or on a personal schedule for individual students who could benefit from additional supports.
While the total pages of this entire document is 18, the single large picture icons per page (both with and without words written out below) is a total of 12 pages, the slightly smaller icons with words below is a total of 3 pages, and the 4 small personal size icons of each direction with words written below are on 1 page.
Thank you for considering this product!
*** Product Statement ***
In opening this store, I did a lot of research to ensure that the use of any graphics, clip art, pictures, etc. in my products would not violate any sort of copyright infringement and/or licensing regulations. With that being said, this is the reason that for social stories, visuals, etc. being sold in my store, you will not see me using any Boardmaker images. While Boardmaker is a wonderful tool, their policy regarding selling products using their icons is too unclear for my comfort. In contacting them directly, multiple times, I received varying responses as to what their policy specifically is. In addition, I do not personally own a copy of Boardmaker. The only access I have ever had to Boardmaker, has been through my employers. There are very specific federal licensing and piracy laws that specifically address it being illegal to use software purchased by your employer for any sort of personal use, gain, and/or profit. I do understand that many people like their visuals, social stories, etc. icons to be consistent with Boardmaker as that is the most widely used PCS (picture communication symbols) however due to all of the above, I have done my best in the materials I have created to find icons/pictures that are similar or as close to Boardmaker images as possible. While they may not be the exact same, I do think the icons/pictures I use are still of great quality. Since I am not an attorney, nor do I ever want to have to hire one over concerns about copyright infringement, licensing, and/or piracy violations - protecting myself by using images that are royalty-free is the safest choice for me.
