I love showing my middle and high school students Viva Cuba!
First, it's available for free online (with subtitles, if that's what your students need).
Second, it brings up issues of friendship, independence vs conformity, fear, and it has an open ending (which is awesome for making predictions).
Finally, it is appropriate for 6th-12th graders, connecting with them in different ways.
I usually split up the movie into four class periods, but feel free to adapt to fit your class's needs. This packet includes a before-viewing and a during-viewing activity for all four sections of the film.
Enjoy this excellent movie and the activities to accompany it!
