Use these discussion questions for Vive le taureau to help students better understand the main ideas of the story.
Discussion Questions Chapter 1
The first chapter(s) of a story is often packed full of information. If students don’t understand all of the important details, they will have a difficult time understanding the remainder of the story or miss out on key events.
This first activity is designed to help students understand the most important details of Vive le taureau. In the past, I have had students work in small groups to help each other understand the main ideas and gain confidence in their reading skills. The questions are in English to help students discuss the main ideas.
Small Group Discussion
Once students have an understanding of the main ideas of the story, it is important to have students make connections to the text. I have created two sets of small group discussion questions in French to encourage students to connect their learning to their personal experiences as well as communicate in French.
The first set of questions is fairly simple, but will help students compare and contrast their experience with the main characters of the story.
The second set of questions are more complex grammatically and conceptually as well as encouraging students to put themselves in the shoes of the main character. The questions use the conditional, si clauses and the passé composé.
