This activity focuses first on the intro to Marc Anthony's "Vivir Mi Vida" (link to official video above), having students complete a fill-in-the-blank activity and complete a translation of the intro to English. An extension activity of students writing their own intro could be done as well. On the bottom of the first page, the critical thinking questions that follow have students infer cultural information from visual clues based on the video.
On the second page, students are instructed to define new vocab using wordreference.com (vocab may need to be reviewed depending on what your students do and don't know & you may want to edit HOW the students find the vocab), and 'relaxed pronunciation' (pa'=para, etc.) is presented and practiced. Last comes the cloze activity of the song lyrics and an instruction for students to translate the lyrics to English (which could easily be removed or edited).
Although I created this activity for an end-of-the-semester activity for my Spanish II class, it could be used with advanced levels as well. My students LOVED this activity and loved the song even more. Many even downloaded it to their phones and iPods and I even caught some of them singing it to themselves a week later! This song is a MUST PLAY for students, and I also used it to teach them the basic salsa steps and to get them up and moving to the beat as we practiced singing! The possibilities with this song are ENDLESS! This is one of my favorite song activities I have created thus far.
