Vocab Power Grid:
If you have watched the game show pyramid, then you will know how to play this game! The point of this game is to have the students explain key words/concepts without using the word.
1. Have students pair up.
2. Project the power grid up on the board or print out copies for each pair.
3. One student will be giving clues on one word at a time while the other is guessing.
4. Allow them about 2-3min to explain as many vocab words as they can without saying the word on the grid, something rhyming with the word, or saying “the word starts with.”
5. After time is up, have the partners switch roles. The new clue giver can give clues to the same words if they choose or different words. You can continue this process as many times as you want.
I do this on the first day of school with fun words so the students can learn how the activity works. The next time you do it with concepts/standards, they can jump right in!
