This 147 page vocabulary assessment pack is specifically for National Geographic's 1st Grade Reach for Reading program. It includes resources for the high frequency words in the program.
Assess your student's recognition and fluency of these words with the following activities:
Vocabulary/Word Work Rings- Copy, on colored paper if you wish, all weeks and put on separate binder rings. Put as a word work station with magnets, play dough, or stamps. The possibilities are endless!
Weekly Vocabulary Assessment- This is the teacher copy for records and/or to send home with the students. You can have the kiddos read the weekly vocabulary words from the word cards or from the vocabulary rings. Circle or highlight any words that the kiddos miss and record their score at the bottom of the page.
Vocabulary & Number Cards- Print back to back, again, on colored paper if you wish, and put on a binder ring for students to use as flash cards with one another as practice. You can also copy one for each student each week to cut out and practice putting in ABC order. After they are done, partner students up to play “Slap”. The teacher calls out one of the vocabulary words. The student that slaps that card first gets to keep it. Play until are cards are read. Whoever has the most words, wins! Students can glue these cards into a vocabulary book or keep in a folder or small storage box once they are done to read through when they have time.
Unit Vocabulary Assessment Recording Sheet- This is the teacher copy for records. Use one sheet for each student and assess your kids at the end of each four week unit. You can choose to keep this for your files (or copy it) and/or send a copy home for the parents. Be sure to give students a praise sticker once they are done, regardless of their score!
Unit Vocabulary Assessment- This is the student copy for the students to read the words from. You can laminate these for longer lasting durability.
