My students love learning new vocabulary with the help of Vocabu-Toons. The activity sheet is pretty much a graphic organizer. Students write the new word, write what they think the word means, and then finish filling in the Vocabu-Toon sheet after I teach the new words. As part of the activity, students must write down a rhyming word for their new word. Then they must write and illustrate a sentence in which they use the actual vocabulary word and the rhyming word. It's a bit of a challenge, but my students never complain. This is their time to come up with silly rhyming words and even sillier sentences. Bottom line...they remember what the words mean.
