I created this packet of 53 rich words as a means of increasing my students' vocabulary. Each week a new vocabulary word was introduced and posted on the wall and we eliminated the old or tired synonym from our written and spoken vocabulary. In fact, we would say the word one last time, blow it into our hand and then "throw it out of the window." I was impressed at how successful this was and how students transferred their learning. Students actively used the words and anxiously looked forward to the new word at the beginning of the week. Parents commented about the students' use of the words at home and how they, too, learned several new words.
