There is also root word and suffix word activities for students to work on as well. I added a bonus activity called "Categories" where students use the part of speech to classify certain words. ANSWER KEYS ARE INCLUDED.

Here are some suggestions to teach the lesson:
Mini-Lesson: Use the exemplars (the “Heart” connotative and denotative” graphic organizers to explicitly model your expectations for the activity.
Independent Activity: Ask students to use the dictionary or the internet to the complete the connotative and denotative graphic organizer activity
Enrichment/ Enhancement: Ask “advanced students” to come up with their own words that have connotative and denotative meanings on the blank graphic organizers
Accommodations/ Modifications for SPED students, 504 students, and struggling students: Partially fill out the graphic organizers (I would suggest filling out the synonyms and antonyms).
