Make vocabulary work fun with this Vocabulary Bingo activity! Building vocabulary is especially important in the English/ Language Arts classroom and is also an important piece of the new Common Core State Standards, but what class doesn’t have a vocabulary component? We all know we have to build our students’ vocabulary, and we know that drill and practice isn’t the best strategy, but what is? Students must interact with new words a multitude of times before obtaining true mastery of the word, and that is really the purpose of this activity. The variety of activity choices gets students engaged in their own learning and provides students multiple opportunities to interact with their new words. The activities are also designed to give students a chance to showcase their strengths, whether they are strong in artistic ability, writing ability, or technology use. I have had great success with this activity in my own classroom, and I hope you will, too! While I use this assignment in my high school English classroom, it is easily adaptable for lower grade levels and other courses.
This download includes a Bingo board of vocabulary activity choices, directions for each activity, Vocabulary WordArt directions, and a Word Map graphic organizer.
This activity is Common Core aligned and addresses the following English/Langauge Arts Standards:
Language Standard 4b-d
Language Standard 6
