Based on Robert Marzano's research, I created this sheet for building vocabulary. In my class, we do this once a week. The first several times, we do it together as a class using the iPad and projector. After that, students work in pairs to fill it our on their own using dictionaries, thesauri, laptops and iPads. By the time the state test comes around, they really understand non-linguistic representations (pictures), synonyms, antonyms, and where language originates from.
