Vocabulary Building for Primary Grades was created to help our young learners acquire and use a range of general and curriculum specific vocabulary words and phrases.
We have focused specifically on ELA words that Kindergarteners need to learn. The graphic organizer we chose to use is called the Frayer Model. Older children can write or draw in order fill out the graphic organizer. You can differentiate the instruction by allowing children who can draw legible pictures the opportunity to do so and have them attempt to write.
Vocabulary words included with pictures and completed examples are:
Not only have our students truly mastered these story elements and grammar vocabulary words because of these Frayer Model activities, but they also have a greater understanding of what a definition is and what the difference is between a fact and a characteristic.
