If you are interested in expanding the vocabulary of your students, this packet of materials is all you need. In order for my students to learn these words (which they often run across in reading--my students are always wanting to show me when they find "our" words), I limited it to fifteen words per month so "word of the DAY" isn't actually accurate. :)
I have been doing this with my students since I started teaching and it really does make a difference, even for struggling students. Each morning, I write that day's word, the part of speech, the synonyms, and the example sentence on the board. The students copy it down in their Word of the Day notebooks. We review the definitions they have gotten for the month each day (or we go through all of them once all ten have been given); I randomly call on students and give the definition and they tell me the word. If they answer correctly, they get a treat. By doing this each day, the definitions are reinforced.
For each month, you get:
A list of 15 words with the definition, the part of speech, synonyms for the word, and an example sentence for each
A crossword puzzle (I give it to my students as homework the night before the quiz)
Crossword puzzle answer key
Word Quiz answer key
If you want to see the words used, I have attached a list of each month's words as a free preview download. Samples are provided if you want to take a look.
