Students will sort through a list of 48 science vocabulary words and place the words into one of five categories. All words belong to one list. Students can decide how to categorize the words. After the words have been sorted, students are asked to draw a picture to represent or summarize each of their categories.
This is great to use as an alternative review for vocabulary words. Students will need to first know the definitions to the words in order to properly sort them. As a teacher, you can assess student knowledge of the words without just having the students simply write out definitions. Students will be engaged with this assignment as they discuss their sorting ideas with the students around them.
