Vocabulary Chart- New, Interesting, or Important Words
This chart is for students to use during any kind of reading activity. They should identify new, interesting, or important words from the text and fill in each column.
Each chart includes a column for page number, word, clues (from the test, pictures, prior knowledge, whatever you teach), and definition.
There are 4 versions of the chart for differentiation of ability levels and writing skills:
-6 spaces, smaller writing area with no lines
-3 spaces, larger writing area with no lines
-3 spaces, larger writing area with wide spaces lines
-3 spaces, larger writing area with narrow spaced lines
This activity also provides a way to differentiate up for higher level students. While many students will encounter new, unknown words as they read, there are always students who know the meaning of every word on the page. For these students, they are prompted to look for interesting or important words which requires a higher level of thinking.
