This Vocabulary Comic Strip activity from Edu-Ready Resources is a creative way for students to demonstrate mastery of targeted vocabulary/terms/domain-specific words in any subject, while at the same time meeting the Common Core Standards for vocabulary acquisition. The included rubric, which makes for quick and easy grading, also emphasizes to students the need to use the words/terms in context and not merely regurgitate a definition. Class artists will love this activity, but reassure your artistically-challenged students that stick figures are perfectly acceptable; artwork is not evaluated. Typically, I’ve used Vocabulary Comic Strip as a classwork activity to reinforce vocabulary, allowing students to use their notes/note cards while working, but it can also be used as a quiz or test grade. Modification is easy: allow students to work in pairs (which also reduces your grading!), use/not use their notes/note cards, or decrease/increase the number of assigned words/terms. This is also a very easy and engaging assignment to leave for subs.
