Students will practice using context clues to help them determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.
Each piece of text is written with purposeful clues to help students determine the correct meaning of the underlined word from the two possible choices. Students are then required to write a sentence or two to explain the clues they used to determine the correct meaning.
I've also included a second version of each context clue sheet. Instead of choosing the correct meaning from the two choices, students are required to come up with the meaning of the word on their own. Having both options is perfect for differentiation!

I've used these activities in whole group, guided reading, word work station, and independent settings. They are also a great way to teach and practice test taking strategies for standardized testing.
There are 33 pages with two questions on each page.
