With this packet by Suzanne Buras, you and your students are in for some creative twists and turns in the creative writing department! Great for gifted and advanced students!
The packet contains:
(1) Six different creative writing assignment cards (A-F). These should be cut out (and maybe laminated for later use). You may use them as you wish. Students may choose which assignment they prefer, you can assign them, or they can draw a card at random.
(2) Twenty-four creative writing prompts (1-24). Cut these out.
These prompts include unlikely combinations of Settings, Themes, and Props that students must somehow incorporate into their writing
assignment. There are two cards for each set of prompts. One is a QR Code and the other is what the QR Code says. If students have
access to a smart phone with a QR Code Reader (free app), it is a fun way to be surprised by their writing prompts. If they do not have
access to such, you may simply use the cards with the written
prompts. Again, students may choose which assignment they prefer, you can assign them, or they can draw a card at random.
Requiring students to use some of their assigned vocabulary words
makes their tasks even more challenging and creative!
Want to Take It a Step Farther?
If you have access to video recording devices, computers, etc.,
student-generated skits, interviews, move trailers, etc., can be acted
out and recorded. iMovie, Movie Maker, etc., are great tools to use to present student work. Even a simple recording of a student or students reading their story is highly motivational and a great opportunity to express themselves.
All writing activities may be assigned to individuals, partners, or small groups. Your choice! Have fun!
