This digital, paperless, no prep
notebook is meant for students' use during independent reading. This is perfect for those of you who use Reading Workshop or incorporate regular independent reading with student-chosen texts.
Students gather words from their own, ideally, leveled texts and put them into this digital notebook. They must do the following for each word loosely following the Frayer model:
- Define the word.
- Find a picture to represent the word.
- Write the sentence in which they found the word in their text.
- Write their own sentence.
- Write one-word example and non-examples.
They would duplicate a given blank slide for each word.
Also included is a template for students to add their words as a shared dictionary with the class
. In this, students can choose words they feel other students would benefit from knowing. They'd write the definition and the entire class has access to these words.
You can also simply use this as a template
for whatever vocabulary system you use.
Additionally, with this product, you will get an interactive word wall display
. Here is what's included for that:
- Banner entitled "Word Collectors".
- Papers in which students add words they'd like to put on the wall.
- Emojis (students would place a word of their choice next to the emoji they feel their word represents).
The idea behind this product is that students are collecting words they WANT to learn more about instead of given a new list each week to memorize. This could certainly supplement an already in play vocabulary program, as well.
