This hands-on partner activity, developed by Kate Bucknall, increases and improves vocabulary using own-knowledge, digital and print reference materials. Students often use general words in their writing or when describing a character. This activity takes the word 'sad', gives16 synonyms which the students have to place in order of least sad to most sad. Students have in-depth discussions about the words and have to support their thinking. There are two levels of words so you can differentiate your teaching. Based on common core standards; determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific vocabulary, determine or clarify the meaning of unknown words, consult reference materials- digital and print, engage effectively in collaborative discussions.
