This booklet is given to my students at the beginning of the year. I use it in the following ways:
1. To record our reading vocabulary words (from the MacMillan Treasures Reading Series).
2. If a student asks me what a work mean, I will have them look it up in the dictionary and record it in the Vocabulary section.
3. When they need to know how to spell a word, I ask that they come to me with the page open to the beginning letter of the "How do I spell…?" section. I write the word for them then ask them what it means. If they don't know or are incorrect, I will ask them to record it as a vocabulary word.
4. Following our weekly Word Study, I require that the students record the words that they are still having difficulty spelling correctly.
By the end of the year, they have a terrific resource to help them with their reading, writing, and words they have difficulty spelling (which they can continue to practice).
I recommend copying it two-sided and three hole punched. We store it in a folder with brads.
