Product Description
This packet can be used for vocabulary development with primary students as well English Language Learners. The English language is difficult enough to learn and our language contains many double meaning words….more than I have in this packet.

This packet was created to have some fun with vocabulary. When I teach this lesson, I use the book A King Who Rained by Fred Gywnne. I usually tag pages to read to the children as not all the pages contain true homonyms(double meaning words). We read the story and stop to discuss each page sharing our thinking and what the words may mean. It is a very funny book so the children love it.

Then I give partners or small groups a word card with a double meaning word and they have to come up with 2 or more meanings for that word. We share our ideas.

The students then brainstorm with their partner or group words that they know that have double meanings. We share out our ideas and and write the words on a classroom chart.

The students choose a word to fill in the "Can a Watch Watch You?” worksheet. They write the word in the two spaces at the top of the worksheet and then draw a picture to show the two different meanings of the word. They write a sentence for each word to demonstrate their understanding of the chosen vocabulary word. If children are stuck to find a word, I will give them one of the cards included in this packet.

The students then make a watch and decorate however they want and then add the eyes.
The watch and worksheet can be displayed as shown in the sample on a bulletin board or outside the classroom.
The Homonym chart is left up and as children are reading independently, if they find a double meaning word, they may write it on the chart.
