This learning mat is a fun way for students to review vocabulary. I use learning mats to review for vocabulary quizzes or EOG prep. Mats can be played by individuals or pairs for added competition fun.
Learning mats are played like a matching game. Students receive a baggie with 16 vocabulary words first ... lay a game board mat on each desk face down. Students are not allowed to turn over game board and start until you say "go." Students are to match each vocabulary word with the correct definition on the game board. Students simply place the correct word over the correct definition on the game board.
I ask my students to simply raise their hand when they are finished. This eliminates a lot of calling out and interruptions. When playing in pairs, raising their hand at completion is a must!!
My students love playing these mat boards and they will ask to play as a review for a vocabulary quiz the next day. I make a class set and several of my students ask to take one home to study. I simply number boards and baggies and sign them out to students at the end of the day.
