This file is an editable Vocabulary Journal for students to add to throughout the year. This is one of my favorite resources for vocabulary instruction. By the end of the year, students end up with a journal full of academic vocabulary to refer to. I encourage students to pull up their journals during writing time as well, so that they have strong words to help inspire strong writing.
Each slide of the journal includes:
- Part of Speech
I like to use gifs as examples, as I have done in the example slide. To see the gif in motion, simply put the journal in present mode. Students get such a kick out of moving examples, and love searching for their own.
My favorite thing to do with this journal is to upload it to my Google Drive and convert it into a Google Slides presentation. This allows my to assign the journal to my student by posting it right in my GOOGLE CLASSROOM!
This is such an easy way to expose students to different word skills while helping them acquire new academic vocabulary.
Don't have 1:1 devices? No problem! Simply print the slides and have students keep their pages in a folder or binder for the year.
This can be a general academic vocabulary journal, but it can also be subject-specific. Use it as a science, social studies, or math journal to keep track of domain-specific key terms.
