Get students to reflective on their vocabulary learning.
Before teaching vocabulary, have students rate their knowledge on the word (based on a scale listed on form). They also write what they think the word means. At the conclusion of the vocabulary instruction, students again rate their knowledge, hopefully showing an increase in knowledge.
The form is a template, that allows for up to six words at a time. Use with my weekly vocabulary grids as a way for students to self-assess how well they learned the weekly vocabulary words.
My students are always impressed with their learning in one week. Alternatively, sometimes they are surprised, because words they thought they knew, they realize after completing the rating after, that they need to review.
