Keep track of students’ vocabulary progress by having them add unknown vocabulary words from the text that they are reading to their vocabulary notebooks. The words that students are adding to their notebooks can be different, depending on their individual progress and ability level. Students will depict a particular word in 4 different ways to ensure understanding. Two vocabulary words fit on each page. At the end of each month have students track their own vocabulary word progress using the graph. There are 3 different versions of the graph for varying student abilities. All students should feel successful, so choose the graph that would best serve each child.
Assembling Vocabulary Notebooks:
Print out a cover, multiple copies (double sided) of the vocabulary word template, and the appropriate graph. Bind or staple together to form individual student books. Laminate covers for durability.
