This packet was created from words on the National Vocabulary List for 4th grade students. Each word is put into a paragraph. Students are required to identify context clues, antonyms, synonyms, identify the parts of speech for each word, and use the word in a complete sentence to show understanding. After a few words are introduced a spiral review is included to have students match the vocabulary word with the correct meaning. This packet focuses primarily on words with prefixes and suffixes. Answer key is provided with the packet. I used this in a 4th grade classroom to improve vocabulary development primarily with ESL and EC students but can be used with any 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade classrooms. Each packet would usually last a week. I would assign a few paragraphs each night and review in school to ensure understanding. The first 16 pages are the packet and the remaining pages are the packet with answers. This packet includes a test, spiral review, writing sentences to show meaning, identifying context clues and parts of speech, breaking down words by affixes, and a matching game. The following words are used in the vocabulary packet: satisfied, tremendous, horizon, wander, injury, microscopic tumble, foundation, demonstrate, coarse, contribute, sprint, curious, delay, exhausted, roam, stroll, seldom, identical, and discourage.
