This packet focuses on using the unknown words within context. Each word has a paragraph devoted to helping students figure out the meaning using context clues, synonyms, antonyms, and identifying the parts of speech. A chart is included where students can keep track of each vocabulary word and which part of speech it is being used in. I have found that once students can identify the part of speech, it makes it easier to find clues for a meaning. typically nouns come in the beginning and end of a sentence, or after an adjective, so that helps them know that their mystery word is a person, place or thing. Verbs generally show action or tell what the subject is going and is usually in the middle of the sentence. If students can identify nouns, then they are able to see that a word is an adjective so it must describe something.
