Do you have primary students who know all the sight words by the end of the first month of school? Are some of your students reading at levels where the focus is more on “reading to learn” rather than “learning to read”?
Each year I have had students who are ready for something more challenging than the sight word lists (mine are first graders, but this packet may also work well for other grade levels who need to differentiate) . These students have a solid understanding of the reading strategies and can zip through the k-2 sight word lists in lightening speed! So, in an effort to build their vocabulary and to differentiate, I created these 44 vocabulary packets to use through the year.
Now, my super readers are working on vocabulary words instead of sight words. They work on reading AND understanding words.
This is a TAKE HOME packet. Students complete 5 tasks (one per day). Students will need adult support to complete the packet.
This file contains:
*Teacher’s Notes explaining how to use the materials.
*Good News From School letter (and a generic version so you can customize the letter)
*Reading Vocabulary Task Sheet (4 Tasks and a Practice day)
*Word sorting sheet
*Write the word sheet
*Write sentences sheet
There are 44 packets in this file.
This packet is perfect for high performing first graders, but could be used with other grade levels (differentiation). Please download the preview file so you can view all 44 lists and a sample packet. This will allow you to decide if the materials in this packet will meet your needs!
Lists 1-24 are challenging but lists 25 - 44 are even MORE challenging.
