Product Description
Learning vocabulary terms can be easy when students really dig in and "learn" and understand the words' meanings -not memorize- the words.
So, let your kids create pamphlets for their vocabulary words using this printable activity.

It includes sections for writing definitions with parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, writing meaningful sentences, and creating analogies.

ALSO, there are 2 additional printables that include a sketching page for illustrating vocabulary terms (sketching chart) and a related forms page/chart for students to list the related forms of each vocabulary term. On closing page are a few suggestions (grading and printing info).

This item contains 5 pages total, 1 of which is the closing page with a few notes to teacher for use.
I suggest selecting the options to "shrink to printable area" and "choose paper source by PDF size" when printing this item.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED THE VOCABULARY TRI-FOLD ALSO IN MY STORE PLEASE NOTE THIS ITEM IS A VERY SIMILAR TOOL, containing a few minor changes in layout, section task for related forms, and changes made for printing with less ink. THIS PAMPHLET and my vocabulary TRI-FOLD serve the SAME purpose, but I created this second version of a vocabulary foldable to use in my class! I chose to upload this second version for your use if you'd like a second version. If you have not purchased the tri-fold, you might like to check it out too!

This pamphlet makes a great study guide for vocabulary tests! It works just as well when breaking each section down into "bell ringer" tasks or writing/reading center tasks--an ongoing assignment which accompanies the reading text from which vocabulary terms have been selected.

An additional suggestion for use:
At times, I let this pamplet take the place of a vocabulary quiz! After completing all of the activities involved, an in-depth study of terms has been completed.

We do not want them memorizing words; we want them learning them! So, we do not always have to give them the general "test" to assess their learning! When I use this method, my students complete a section or two each day (in class or for homework depending on time) until the pamphlet is completed. In the end, they've done quite a bit with their vocabulary!

This has worked wonders with students that shut down with the drone of note taking or copying definitions. Not only are they continuously applying their words' meanings in different activities, they learn them long before they even realize it! Students won't feel the need to memorize anything the night before a test!

Naturally, this tool is used when students already understand how to create an analogy, have been taught how to locate synonyms and antonyms, understand how to find "related forms" of words, etc. They should be able to complete each section independently, polishing vocabulary skills while applying the new meanings of their words to complete each section.

Best of all, this word study activity is not limited to language arts. It is a great tool for social studies, science, and other areas too! If you teach a course containing new terminology (and I'm sure you do!!), this activity can be a great supplement or tool for you to incorporate!

Thanks for stopping by my store!
