Practice, practice, practice (bell work)…Change it up with different styles of vocabulary practice for upper grades. Most can be completed in about 5 min. after modeling an example, with the exception of the root word poster and game activities.
The first day of the week, give students their word (s) and complete one of the three definition practice sheets. On subsequent days decide if single or multiple word practice is desired and select the appropriate practice exercise.
The etymology study of the word schnibble is a lot of fun. After they add it to their definition sheet, have students explain why the word shows up at certain times in different parts of the country. The rest of year they will know what you mean when you ask them to clean up their schnibbles.
