Give your students the freedom to choose how they want to learn new vocabulary!
This assignment requires students to complete a vocabulary project by choosing from sixteen options. Each of the options is weighted at 5, 10, or 15 points depending on the level of effort to complete.
Typically I assign 30-40 words for this project and allow students to work in class for 1 1/2 to 2 days. I type out the vocabulary list that I want students to use on the back of the paper. It takes extra time on my part but doing this alleviates confusion. I never include cognates unless a word has an especially unusual spelling. I do not see a reason to require students to do unnecessary work.
While the examples are listed in Spanish, this Microsoft Word document allows you to easily adapt this assignment to any language. If you need to be out of school for 1-2 days, this is an appropriate sub plan.
You can use this template over and over throughout the school year!
