How I Use It
Thank you for purchasing this activity! I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine do. I use this activity to help drive my vocabulary instruction. In my classes, we use the Word Within the Word vocabulary program. This program begins with stems and roots and culminates in words that are created from those stems and roots. Every two weeks, we study a new list. I have used this activity after introducing the words in order to allow students to take a closer look at the words. The activity asks the students to break down the word into stems/roots, write a couple of sentences, define the word, draw a picture that represents the word, and examine synonyms and antonyms. I typically ask the students to complete three pumpkins using words from the current vocabulary list. I encourage them to decorate the pumpkins so I can hang them around the room.
