The 120 vocabulary words assessed in these quizzes are those that most commonly appear on the verbal section of the SAT exam. These quizzes were designed for the English 11 classroom, but could be used in any high school course.
The quizzes are designed to measure students' abilities to apply the words to real-world contexts. They are not asked to regurgitate definitions but instead to demonstrate their understanding in hypothetical situations that are similar to their own lives. Because some of the questions reference specific people and places in the school community, some of the questions may need to be adapted.
